• 1954 - John Simon home near Madison was the site of the first Mass in the new parish, which began with 25 Catholic families in the northern Greenwood County area. Before the parish began, they attended Mass at Hamilton, Maydale or Olpe. Land south and east of Madison purchased for parish site.

  • 1955 - Present St, Teresa of Avila church completed and dedicated on May 22nd of this year.

  • 1957-1960’s - Summer vacation school classes were conducted by the Sisters Adorers of the Blood of Christ from Wichita.

  • 1959 - Apartment used as a temporary rectory destroyed by fire. Church records were lost in this tragedy.

  • 1960 - Diocese of Wichita sold land south of the church to the Madison School District in exchange for an equal amount east of the church. This tract was later sold to Madison Manor.

  • 1963 - Solemn blessing of the new altar of sacrifice, used since the Second Vatican Council.

  • 1967 - Closing of St. Mary’s parish in Maydale brought seven new families to St. Teresa parish.

  • 1976 - Because of a shortage of priests, it became necessary for St. Teresa parish to become a mission to Sacred Heart parish in Eureka. Fr. George Kruzik was pastor at this time- he moved to the rectory in Eureka while retaining his position as pastor in Madison.

  • 1985 - New organ donated to the parish along with the purchase of new ceiling fans.

  • 1988- Air conditioning unit placed in the church.

  • 1989 - Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary from Wichita began conducting summer vacation school classes at St. Teresa parish.

  • 1990 - Communion railing, removed in the 1960’s was restored and reinstalled at the sanctuary area- new sidewalks were laid in front and to the south side of the church- new trees and shrubs were planted around the building, in memory of deceased members.

  • 1993 - Announcement of possible closing of the parish due to the growing shortage of priests in the Diocese of Wichita. This decision was reversed later this year.

  • 1994 - Entire basement repainted, along with the extensive repair to the doors and pews.

  • 1995 - Parking area in front of church re-gravelled.

  • 1996 - The local bishop meets with pastor and parishioners concerning the future of St. Teresa parish. Extensive roof repair.

  • 1997 - Church interior painted- central air conditioning installed- ceiling panels also installed.
